What is email forwarding?

When you purchase hosting from Purplenames you are provided with unlimited email forwarding. For instance, if you registered mydomain.com you can ask your visitors to send email to anything@mydomain.com and have those emails re-directed to an existing email address.

Please note that when responding to a forwarded email, your recipient will see that the email has come from the address it was forwarded to, not the alias the recipient thought they were sending the email to.

How do I set up email forwarding aliases and forwarding addresses?

Upon registration of your hosting, Purplenames will set the catch all email forwarding alias to re-direct emails to the email address you provide when purchasing your domain name. You can change this forwarding address at any time via your control panel. You may also set as many named aliases as you wish and have them forward to any existing email address. For instance, if you registered mydomain.com you can set the catchall email aliases to forward to your main e-mail address:

Anything not specified sent to @mydomain.com will forward to myemailaddress@example.com

You can then set up as many aliases as you wish and have these forward to a specified e-mail address:

info@mydomain.com will forward to address2@email2.com
sales@mydomain.com will forward to address3@email3.com

Please note that it is best to make your main email address the catch all forwarding address. This way you do not need to create numerous email aliases and have them all forward to the same email address.

For instance, using the example above, if you wanted people to send you email at enquiries@mydomain.com and have these re-directed to myemailaddress@example.com , you need not create an alias for this as myemailaddress@example.com is your catch all forwarding address and anything not specified as a named alias will be re-directed to this email address. So, create new aliases only when the email address to be re-directed to is different than the catch all forwarding address.
