Domain Names:
What is a domain name?A domain name is an address on the Internet and is used, for convenience, in place of the numeric IP address. Every domain name has a unique corresponding IP address but the domain name is used as it is much easier for people to remember. When you register a domain name with Purplenames you can use the domain name to form part of your email address. For instance, if you registered www.mycompany.com you could then have email addresses ending in @mycompany.com. How do I renew my domain name registration after two years?Your domain name will be registered in your ownership for the standard two-year registration period, unless you choose to upgrade your registration of a .com extension for more than the minimum two-year registration period. Near the end of that two-year period we will remind you of the need to re-register the domain name and you can do this with Purplenames or any domain name registration company of your choice. You will be required to pay for the registration of the domain name again.back to top What are the restrictions on a domain name? When deciding on a domain name to purchase, you may choose all 26 letters of the alphabet and any number from 0 to 9. You may also use a dash (-). Domain names are NOT case sensitive. Domain names must be less than 63 characters in length. This limit of 63 includes characters such as .co.uk. No spaces or other characters are allowed. Two character domain names can only be registered if they are the registered trademarks of that company. .ltd.uk extensions are reserved for private limited companies and .plc.uk are for public limited companies. We recommend you keep your domain name as short and memorable as possible.back to top Transferring a domain name you own to be hosted at Purplenames? If you already own a domain name that is parked or hosted by another web host/registrar and wish to transfer the domain to Purplenames, we will be happy to provide you with 100mb of web space, unlimited e-mail forwarding, 5 free POP3 mailboxes and host the domain for £9 plus vat per month.Depending on the extension of the domain, there are different guidelines involved for you to initiate the transfer through your current host/registrar.
